Stuzha‘s 2008 EP Through the Snowfield is a masterpiece of mood, an evocation of the Siberian winter that drips with authenticity like exuded sap. His debut album, Siberian Sketches, takes autumn as its starting point, but tilts its head toward the wind and walks solemnly into the solstice. The recording is a smorgasbord of Russian choirs and woodland echoes, a rain-drenched blanket that wraps around the listener like a waterproofed pelt. Three years is a long time to wait for a full-length release, but this one is worth it in every way.
