Bomb Shop describes the London tape duo Ambrosia(@) as “noise folk”, which may refer to the artists, the music, or both. Ambrosia(a)’s sophomore release is a chrome cassette, accompanied by a Polaroid and delivered in an evidence bag. Normal? Perhaps not, but most normal people don’t listen to this sort of music. The title track is a low-level static cloud that hovers above a hill of synths; the two-minute “filler” track loops a French woman’s voice atop a bed of shred. But the 15-minute closer, “Demain”, is the EP’s selling point: a beautiful mulch of music boxes, abstract electronics and female vocals that develops into a dynamic drone without ever overstaying its welcome. As the final threads dissipate, their residue is like the nectar of the gods. (Richard Allen)
