Elian ~ A Little Bit of Cinematography

The sound art of Elian (Michael Duane Ferrell) is informed by the creative fire of shifting moods.  Until now, his work has been as formless as the primordial waters.  Yet with his 21-minute tribute to Ingmar Bergman, A Little Bit of Cinematography, a new sense of focus has crept into his creation.  Make no mistake – this is still very dark music, a sonic flood of drones & entanglements that yanks at the ankles like a rotted vine.  But this time around, form and flow are no longer buried in the quagmire.  As these elements rise, they lift the composition from the muck like the first gasping sea creature to purposely flop on land.  Two-thirds of the way into the track, new sounds are still developing; we like the way this artist is developing as well.  (Richard Allen)
